Creole French

The drops of French and Creole in the story 'Lying by Water' probably should have had footnotes. Here are translations, as far as I know they are correct:

bon bagay: good stuff

make the veiller: make the talk, i.e., hang out and chat

parle: discuss, talk

Co, Ain, Mais: exclamations like what, wow, but, etc.

coo yon: fool, similar to coullion

shit de merde: shit of shit, some patois uses these stacked insults

poo-yee-yi!: smells, stinks, nasty

kite mon fou yo jwe: let fools play, play games

tout bien: ok, good, all good

ki mwen: my heart!

allons: go

The characters consist of outsider/s familiar with Louisiana, and at least one Cajun, and possibly a Haitian or Creole. Cajun use dem and dat, vs them and that. It is meant to be ambiguous where exactly Narrator is from. Southerners may recognize several old time phrases and ways of speaking. The story is set in 90's.
